We are all practising social distancing during COVID-19 and many of us are looking for ways to entertain and improve ourselves, connect with others, and educate our children. William Bart says 온라인바둑이 training may be just the mental challenge and escape we need now, according to the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development.

Our conversation with Professor Bart centred on the benefits of practising and playing chess as well as which online tutorials and game sites to explore.

How Old Must A Child Be To Begin Learning Chess?

Some children are able to learn some aspects of chess as early as four years of age. Students need to know the alphabetical letters a through h and numbers 1 to 8 in order to learn the names of the squares on the chessboard. Since children shouldn’t start learning chess until after kindergarten, I do not recommend them to do so.

Chess Might Benefit Students In The Following Ways?

Chess training and practice helps develop higher-order thinking skills such as problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, planning, and even creative thinking. Chess training and practice also enhances general cognitive ability and scholastic achievement-particularly in mathematics.

Additionally, it reinforces affective traits such as patience, prudence, and perseverance. Fairness and honesty are two prominent virtues of chess. Cheating is punished within the international chess community, which encourages civil behaviour and respect for the opponent. Chess is a civil game with an ethical code of conduct that encourages players to play respectfully with each other.

Students, including those with disabilities, can benefit educationally and psychologically from chess training.

During and after the present Coronavirus pandemic, online chess training and online chess play may be beneficial to students.

Chess Can Benefit Seniors In Many Ways.

Why Everyone Should Learn Chess. Five life lessons the game taught me | by Sam Starkman | ILLUMINATION | Medium

Learning and playing chess can benefit seniors in a variety of ways. Among the cognitive benefits are the development and maintenance of higher-order thinking skills such as problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, planning, and even creative thinking.

Furthermore, chess training and practice help develop vigilance and awareness. The game of chess can involve many traps and tricks, and seniors can learn how to avoid these in everyday life, which may prevent them from becoming victims of scams and swindles.

Chess training can help seniors maintain mental sharpness and cognitive vitality while slowing the onset of dementia.

Finally, playing chess is a great way to have fun and exercise your brain-especially when it is done socially.

Can You Recommend Some Sites For Someone New To Chess?

If you’re interested in online chess training, I recommend the following sites:

  • The United States Chess Federation offers three videos explaining the basic rules of chess in their blog section.
  • You can view the official rules of chess with this Learn to Play Chess site (also from the United States Chess Federation).
  • The user has the option of playing an artificial opponent in Game Knot.
  • On the left side of the site, set the level to “Easy” for chess beginners.
  • You should practice clicking “Switch Sides” periodically before you begin playing with the black pieces. Chess players should become proficient at playing with both black and white pieces.
  • Change the level to “Beginner” if the “Easy” opponent becomes too easy.

Chess training and practice are needed if you want to be competitive against more difficult opponents. These three websites, however, offer a good introduction to online chess training for those new to chess.
